A good bedsheet is one of those things you don’t think about until it’s wrong — too rough after a wash, too hot in summer, colours faded within a month. At The Living Trends, sourcing bedsheets is less about chasing trends and more about getting the fundamentals right, so here is what we actually look at before a bedsheet earns a place in our collection.
Start with the fibre. Long-staple cotton (the kind we use across our bedsheet range) has longer individual fibres than standard cotton, which means fewer loose ends working their way to the surface — fewer loose ends means less pilling, and a sheet that stays smooth wash after wash instead of turning fuzzy within a season.
Weave matters as much as fibre. Percale is crisp, cool and matte — ideal for India’s warmer months, since the tighter, plain weave lets more air through. Sateen has a soft sheen and a slightly heavier drape, which feels more indulgent but sleeps a touch warmer. Neither is objectively better; it’s a genuinely personal call, and it’s worth choosing based on how warm you sleep rather than which one looks better in a photo.
Thread count is real, but it is not the whole story — a 300-thread-count percale in good long-staple cotton will almost always outlast a 600-thread-count sheet padded out with multi-ply yarns just to inflate the number. We go into this properly in our thread-count piece, but the short version: use thread count as one data point, not the only one.
Lastly, look at the finishing. Deep, reinforced corner elastic means the fitted sheet stays on the mattress instead of pinging off at 3am. Stitched (not just folded) hems hold their shape through repeated washing. These are the unglamorous details that decide whether a bedsheet still looks new after fifty washes — and they’re exactly what we check before anything joins our Bedsheets & Linen collection.
